Teaching them the importance of sharing, taking turns and the love of sports can be introduced to give them a strong foundation not only in sports but also in important life skills. Amazing Athletes is a sports-based fitness program that teaches these skills while kids learn the basics of nine different sports, according to Michael Amberg, owner. "They learn teamwork, hand/eye coordination, gross and fine motor skills, speed and agility," Amberg said. "These developmental skills translate to the classroom." And because so many schools are tightening budgets and sometimes cutting physical education classes, this program fills a needed niche. Classes are for kids 2 1/2 to 6 years old and are given at participating facilities. A coach will visit the school once a week for a 35 minute session. Each class works on two different sports per session. Sports covered are: football, baseball, basketball, volleyball, soccer, golf, tennis, lacrosse and hockey. "It’s amazing to see their skills improve and especially rewarding to watch their confidence grow every class," Amberg said. For more information, call 407-3472. |
